Olu Ogunjemilusi and Annmarie Ruta were the winners
at the weekly SIAC Run for Fun at Clove Lakes Park. Ogunjemilusi covered
the three-mile course in 17:43, with Jeff Benjamin right behind in 17:46.
Frank Connelly finished a split second behind Benjamin, officially 17:46
for third place. A-Born Etchison (18:18) and Tim Gaister (20:17) rounded
out the top five overall finishers.
Ruta broke open a close battle with Alma Ramos in
the second loop, and pulled away to victory in 21:40. Ramos was second in
22:43, while Alla Gaister (31:37), Mary Pannese (34:37) and Marie Garone
(35:02) finished third through fifth for the women.
Cool, cloudy conditions were the order of the day
today, and times were fast and furious as a result. Olu won a close duel
with Jeff Benjamin and Frank Connelly, while Annmarie Ruta pulled away from
Alma Ramos in the second half. The turnout of 26 runners was lower than usual
due to the simultaneous running of the Queens Half Marathon.
There will be a Fun Run next week, which most runners
will use as a tuneup for the SI Advance Race on Memorial Day.
