Swift
like a gazelle, Scott LaMorte is the epitome of strength and
fortitude. He has been a force to reckon with in Island road
races for several years. In the past 3 years, Scott has placed
in the top 100 in his last 25 New York Road Runner racing events
which are well known to have competitor fields in the thousands. One
can see the determination on his face as he hustles toward the
finish line. He runs steady and focused.
Born
and raised on Staten Island, Scott’s running career began in
High School as a Curtis Warrior. At first, he played tennis
and then in his junior year, started running track. As a member
of S.I.A.C. since 1988, he has run 3 New York City marathons
with his best most recently in 2006 with a blistering time of
2:52:23. In 1996 he ran his best fun run in 15:28.
After
turning 40 in May, 2007 Scott finds the competition a bit tougher. Always
a contender in the Triple Crown, his favorite race is Pepper
Martin. Although he finds the course challenging, he has placed
in the top 10 every time he has raced it. He likes to race the
5 mile distance. In 2004 he was the overall winner at Bahr’s
Landing-an unrelenting, hilly 5 miler in Atlantic Highlands,
New Jersey. With an excellent time of 30:16, Scott proved: “When
the going gets tough, the tough get going”.
Scott’s
enthusiasm for the sport of running is contagious. After he
completes a race, he usually cools down offering words of encouragement
to his fellow runners along the way. Anyone who has the priviledge
of knowing him can attest to his genuine, friendly disposition.
He has the enviable trait of never uttering a negative comment
about anyone. As a steadfast member of the S.I.A.C., Scott is
as dedicated to his team as he is to his running.
